Approve a PCB copper busbar material substitution against the specified standard and edition, designation, product form, temper and acceptance requirements. Manufacturer cross-references between C11000 and Cu-ETP help identify candidates. They do not, by themselves, authorize every finished-part substitution.
Check the supply condition after the alloy name
The Copper Development Association C11000 entry lists a minimum copper content of 99.90%, including silver, and notes that oxygen and trace elements can vary with processing. KEMPER lists Cu-ETP alongside EN CW004A and UNS C11000. Check the product standard actually referenced by the purchase order as well.
The mechanical tables distinguish supply conditions. Copper.org organizes values by form and temper; KEMPER lists conditions such as R200/H40 and R290/H90 separately. A chemistry match alone leaves forming and mechanical requirements unresolved.
| Review layer | Evidence to retain | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Original and proposed standards, editions and full designations | Alloy designation and product acceptance specification |
| Delivery | Strip or sheet, thickness and width in mm, temper | Different conditions within one alloy family |
| Function | Conductivity method and temperature; mechanical test conditions | Typical data and guaranteed order limits |
| Manufacture | Stamping, bending, joining and finishing sequence | Raw material conformity and finished-part qualification |
Build an approval matrix
A useful purchasing method is to put the drawing requirement next to the proposed material evidence. Mark each row as supported, awaiting information or requiring validation. Preserve units such as mm and MPa, test direction and method. Resolve differences in test conditions before comparing numbers. An empty field should remain an open item.
For a request described only as T2 to C11000, obtain the original order standard, edition and supply condition first. This article does not establish the full T2 composition range or approve cross-standard equivalence. An equivalent-material clause should name the approval authority and define the affected drawings and lots.
Use public data to frame questions
Aurubis states that its C11000 leaflet does not replace customer testing or automatically warrant a specified quality. For a custom PCB copper busbar, send required evidence, limits, sampling direction and substitution rules with the RFQ. Public typical values should not become an unconfirmed supplier commitment.
Where a later process includes hydrogen at elevated temperature, also review Cu-ETP and reducing-atmosphere compatibility. Material approval and process compatibility require their own evidence.
Questions
Is a certificate saying C11000 enough? It should also identify the delivered lot, product form and condition and address the order requirements.
Can similar conductivity approve the finished part? Forming, mechanical, joining and surface requirements still need review within a documented approval scope.
